NEW YORK CITY MARATHON 2022

THIS. IS. PERSONAL. Fighting to find a cure and raise awareness.

I was only twelve when my father died from complications with melanoma. For many months before that, he put off getting his skin checked. In the early nineties, we didn't know as much about this disease - despite our skin being our largest organ, we didn't believe he could lose his life because of a mole. We have missed him for almost thirty years - so many milestones and adventures have gone by without his presence. No one should have to experience such loss.

Did you know that one person dies from melanoma every hour?

I'm running the NYC Marathon to honor my father and to prevent other young people from experiencing the grief that I did. The mission of Jack's Fund is to support research and provide awareness programs, because early detection saves lives. Their initiatives make a real difference, and you can be an important part in it.

If you or someone you know has had precancerous cells or have melanoma, you already know. If you have been fortunate so far, let me explain why Jack's Fund needs your donation.

  • Melanoma is a very serious form of skin cancer. Although accounting for only 4% of total skin cancer cases, melanoma is the leading cause of skin cancer related deaths.
  • Melanoma is the second most common cancer for young adults ages 15-29.
  • The risk of being diagnosed with melanoma doubles with five or more sunburns at any age, and exposure to tanning beds in youth increases that risk by 75%.
  • The risk of developing melanoma is increasing and most frighteningly, the cases of melanoma among young children are on the rise.

Since the risk of melanoma effects or has affected each and every one of us, the work that Jack's Fund is doing to increase research funding and to develop awareness programs is so important.

As partners in this fight, I will do my part and keep you informed about my training and running the NYC Marathon with Jack's Team.

Just a small donation will go a long way to helping me meet my fundraising goal for Jack's Fund.

  • $30 = the rates of melanoma have been rising for the last 30 years.
  • $54 = One person dies every 54 minutes from melanoma.
  • $100.35 = 100,350 new cases of melanoma will be diagnosed in the US in 2022.
  • $250 = Free skin screening (average fee charged by dermatologists' offices for a skin screening).
  • $800 = Melanoma costs over $800 million to treat annually.

Check out my fundraising page and please consider making a donation to help me reach my goal of $2,500.

Giving online is secure and easy. Even if you can't help with a donation today, please keep Jack's Team in your thoughts as we run the streets and bridges of New York in November.
