This October, I will be running the (2020) 2021 Chicago Marathon for Jack’s Team to raise awareness and funding for melanoma research!

After running the Boston Marathon for charity in 2019, I discovered the transformative power of using my passion for running as a vehicle to help others. Since graduating from Boston College, I spent a year before medical school working as a scribe and medical assistant for a skin cancer specialist in Boston. The majority of our patients had a history of skin cancer, specifically melanoma. As a scribe, I was privileged to be present for many intimate conversations between the doctors, patients, and their families. In this trusted environment, patients often shared vulnerable information about their physical ailments, but more often than not about their personal struggles with cancer. As a medical student, I have continued to investigate this devastating disease through ocular melanoma research in Philadelphia.

Having seen first-hand the detrimental effects of advanced melanoma diagnoses on our patients' quality of life, I am motivated to raise awareness for early detection through annual skin checks and funds for more tolerable treatment therapies.

There are two wonderful and equally important ways you can support my cause.

1. If financially able, I would be truly grateful for any help in meeting my goal of $1,750 for the Jack H. Marston II Melanoma Fund.

2. Secondly, you could take 5 minutes to perform a self skin check. Using the "ABCDE's" (outlined in the image above), you can assess for the "ugly duckling" - any mole or spot that doesn't look like the others. About 50% of melanomas are self-identified using at home skin checks!

Please visit the Jack's fund website to learn more about their phenomenal work!

With love and appreciation,

Ani

P.S. While I was originally set to run the 2020 Chicago Marathon, the event was cancelled due to COVID-19. For any of you lovely donors who contributed to my 2020 Chicago Marathon fundraiser, your donations have rolled over. Thank you again for your help!
