Dear Friends and Family:

On October 9, I will be running the Chicago Marathon in memory of my brother, Matt McCollum, who lost his life to ocular melanoma in April 2021. If you knew him, you loved him. He was my biggest cheerleader and I will be running this race for him.

Matt was an amazing dad, husband, son, cousin, nephew, and friend. He loved his people well. I had the privilege of calling him my brother and he is the reason I decided to make my goal of running this year's Chicago Marathon more than just another race.

I'll be running to honor Matt's memory and raising funds to support Jack H. Marston II Melanoma Fund. Check out their website to see the amazing things they're doing to create awareness including funding research and fighting what statistics have shown us over the years.

  • Melanoma of the eye (ocular melanoma) is a rare and aggressive cancer, affecting only 5 or 6 out of every 1 million people each year.
  • Melanoma is a very serious form of skin cancer. Although accounting for only 4% of total skin cancer cases, it is the leading cause of skin cancer related deaths.
  • Melanoma is the second most common cancer for young adults ages 15-29.
  • The risk of being diagnosed with melanoma doubles with five or more sunburns at any age, and exposure to tanning beds in youth increases that risk by 75%!
  • The risk of developing melanoma is increasing, and most frighteningly, the cases of melanoma amongst young children are on the rise.

Every mile I run will be dedicated to my brother and winning this fight against (ocular) melanoma. My hope in raising the money is to be one step closer to finding a cure. Will you join me?

Just a small donation will go a long way to helping me meet my goal for the Jack H. Marston II Melanoma Fund.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

Any amount helps and is greatly appreciated!

This Run's for Matt!
